1st place winner GDT European Nature Photographer of the Year competition 2009 (other animals)!
I am proud to announce that the photograph below was awarded the first prize "other animals" in the prestigious GDT European Nature Photographer of the Year competition 2009. The photograph shows a Texas Brown Tarantula in a large Live Oak. At first sight two very different organisms, but I discovered that they showed similarities in both form and shape. I carefully approached the spider with a wideangle lens and tried to show how well this animal is able to melt with his environment.
The winning photographs were presented to the public in an exhibition at the International Nature Photography Festival in Lünen, Germany and will now be shown in various museums and exhibition centres in Germany and abroad.

Grey Seal workshop 2011 announcend
After the successful Grey Seal workshop this year, I'm excited to announce next year's Grey Seal workhop, hosted in the UK!
Every year, as autumn rolls into winter, hundreds of grey seals begin hauling themselves out onto the sandbanks in front of Brittain's East coast to give birth to their pups. Here the most important activities of the grey seal calendar are played out, giving photographers unprecedented opportunities to capture dramatic pictures of this spectacular period.

National Geographic publication
During the summer of 1999 I bought my first SLR-camera. I still remember how proud I was with that little camera. And now, almost 10 years after I purchased my first SLR-camera I'm very proud to announce my first publication in the national edition of National Geographic Magazine. The February issue of the Dutch edtition will feature a 4 page portfolio about my arctic fox project (which is still running). Through this series of photographs of the arctic fox I try to raise awareness for climate change in our fragile arctic region and for the effects of climate change in general. While the polar bear is the official ambassador for climate change, I'm convinced that we're able to see different problems through the eyes of the arctic fox. Perhaps it is time for a second ambassador?
Note: Also checkout the latest issue of Grasduinen for a coverage on the ICF Pro-Tour 2008 in Texas.

Doest Photography goes GREEN
As a wildlife photographer I am well aware of critical state our environment is in. I have witnessed our changing environment from up close. As a result I try to keep my ecological footprint as small as possible while raising awareness through my photographs.
Therefore I am very happy to announce that the Doest Photography website has gone green! From now on the website is powered by 100% wind energy. Since generating wind energy on site isn't feasible, my hosting company is offsetting all of their electricity use with wind-generated Renewable Energy Certificates, which prevent the release of 2,660 metric tons of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere each year.
I´m more than proud that the machines hosting the Doest Photography site and e-mail are fully eco-friendly!
